The recent absence of legislative activity in Lansing has prompted a shift in focus towards national concerns. Among these, the handling of President Biden's health by media and officials has come under scrutiny.
Approximately three months ago, various media outlets reported on videos depicting President Biden appearing disoriented. These were labeled as "cheap fake" videos, a term referring to real footage edited deceptively. The White House dismissed these claims, with some media sources supporting this stance.
An article from June 21 by the New York Times was titled: “How misleading videos are trailing Biden as he battles age doubts.” Similarly, The Washington Post criticized the videos with their "Four Pinocchios" rating.
During a subsequent debate, broadcast live without edits, President Biden faced difficulties articulating his thoughts. Official explanations included claims of a cold and jet lag despite prior rest. Ultimately, pressure led to his removal from candidacy. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi acknowledged this pressure publicly.
While some journalists covering the president seemed surprised by his condition during the debate, others admitted awareness of his mental decline months earlier but only now disclosed it.
In Michigan, local press is praised for its fairness and accuracy compared to national outlets perceived as biased or negligent. Governor Whitmer defended President Biden's mental fitness on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” but later suggested a cognitive exam might be beneficial during an appearance with Stephen Colbert.
The situation raises concerns about transparency in reporting and governance integrity. There are calls for Vice President Harris to disclose her knowledge regarding President Biden’s health status amidst global tensions in Ukraine and Gaza.
There is growing sentiment that either President Biden should resign or face potential removal via the 25th amendment for the nation's welfare.
