State Senator Jim Runestad has called for Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel to initiate a criminal investigation into the conduct of Michigan State Police Deputy Director Lt. Col. Aimee Brimacombe. In a letter dated June 22, Runestad criticized Brimacombe for allegedly misusing her state vehicle for personal travel and questioned the outcome of an internal investigation conducted by the Michigan State Police (MSP) in 2021.

Runestad expressed dissatisfaction with the MSP's decision to penalize Brimacombe by revoking five vacation days, comparing it unfavorably to the attorney general’s prosecution of a former employee from the Unemployment Insurance Agency who was convicted of embezzlement for similar misuse of state vehicles.

“This type of double standard for political favorites is disgusting and unacceptable,” stated Runestad, representing White Lake. He emphasized the need for accountability within state police leadership, suggesting that thorough measures should be taken to address such issues internally.

The senator's letter also referenced earlier calls for criminal investigations into Brimacombe's actions made by retired MSP Captain Michael Caldwell.
