State Representative Ann Bollin has announced a significant development regarding the state budget process. On May 1, lawmakers finalized their requests for funding items they wish to see considered in the state budget. Rep. Bollin emphasized the new approach's transparency and accountability.
“The new process we created this year marks a historic step toward restoring transparency and accountability in how taxpayer dollars are spent,” she stated. According to Rep. Bollin, every funding request is now submitted publicly, allowing full details to be accessed by anyone interested.
Rep. Bollin highlighted that the current House has no plans for spending large sums on special projects that were previously common in state budgets. She remarked that the House's focus is on ensuring dollars are spent wisely and provide real value to Michigan residents.
“At the same time, if we’re going to make smart, responsible investments, the good projects need to be on the table for consideration,” she said. This new public process seeks to ensure that only projects serving the public interest will move forward. The House Appropriations Committee will review these submissions carefully.
To date, the House has received over 800 submissions, amounting to more than four billion dollars. Interested parties can view these requests on the official website: house.mi.gov/LegislativelyDirectedSpendingItems.
