State Representative Ann Bollin has expressed her support for female athletes and their right to fair competition by urging the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) to exclude boys from participating in girls' sports. Bollin, representing Brighton Township, emphasized the MHSAA's responsibility to ensure fairness in sports.

"Sports provide young women with opportunities to grow, develop skills, and learn the value of hard work and perseverance," said Bollin. "But when boys compete in girls’ sports, they hold an unfair advantage and take away the opportunities that Title IX was meant to secure for our daughters."

Despite President Donald Trump's executive order mandating the enforcement of Title IX—ensuring both girls and boys at federally funded schools have equal chances to compete—the MHSAA announced last month that it will continue allowing males to participate in female sports.

In response, Bollin and her colleagues in the Michigan House of Representatives approved House Resolution 40 on Wednesday. The resolution urges the MHSAA to amend its policy to safeguard girls' athletic competitions. Sponsored by Bollin along with the entire House Republican Women’s Caucus, the measure received bipartisan support. Following this, Bollin and the women's caucus held a press conference on Thursday stressing the need to maintain fair competition for female athletes.

"Title IX was created to give young women a fair shot in athletics, free from policies that would strip them of their opportunities to compete and succeed," Bollin stated. "We must stand up for our girls and protect the future of women’s sports."
