State Rep. Robert Bezotte | Michigan House Republicans
Losing an election is never easy, as former state representative Bezotte experienced on Tuesday. Reflecting on his time in office, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve his community in Lansing over the past four years. "The main thing I feel is lucky that I got to represent our community in Lansing for four years," he said.
Bezotte also thanked the community for their support during his tenure as sheriff, county commissioner, and state representative. He emphasized the honor of serving and extended well wishes to his successor. Despite the loss, Bezotte remains committed to fulfilling his duties until the end of his term. "I’m still your representative in Lansing for the next few months and I take that seriously," he assured constituents.
He noted that legislative activity might be limited in the coming months due to scheduling by the Democratic-controlled House, with significant sessions not expected until mid-September. However, Bezotte remains focused on advancing his veterans mental health package, which he described as a major priority.
Looking ahead to the lame-duck session after November's general election, Bezotte predicted potential significant developments. This period often sees intense legislative activity as outgoing officials push through controversial measures before new terms begin in January. "Given that there’s a strong possibility control of the House flips next term, lame duck could be eventful," he remarked.
