State Rep. Ann Bollin criticized the Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission for voting to give themselves a 40% raise while they work on redrawing maps that were found to be unconstitutional. Bollin stated, “The redistricting commission’s decision to grant themselves a raise in the face of their own failures shows a flagrant disregard for the very principles of public service they were entrusted to uphold."

Bollin further expressed disappointment by highlighting the lack of substantive work done by the commissioners despite receiving salaries mandated to reflect a quarter of the governor’s pay. She pointed out, "Instead of accepting responsibility and diligently working to rectify the situation, some of the commissioners now see fit to reward themselves for the additional work required to fix their own mistakes."

Emphasizing the need for integrity and accountability, Bollin stated, "The people of Michigan deserve better. They deserve commissioners who prioritize integrity, accountability, and genuine public service over self-interest and personal gain." She urged the commissioners who approved the raise to reconsider their priorities and focus on serving the public rather than their own financial interests.

Bollin's remarks underscore the growing concern over the actions of the redistricting commission and call for a renewed commitment to reform and public service from the Secretary of State, who is responsible for guiding the commission in their work.
