State Rep. Ann Bollin is renewing the call for Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to uphold her commitment to transparency, as Sunshine Week shines a light on government accountability. Bollin, who has long been an advocate for ethics reform and transparency measures, emphasized the importance of leaders keeping their promises.
“Transparency shouldn’t be a campaign slogan that’s conveniently discarded after election day,” said Rep. Bollin. “Michiganders want leaders who operate with integrity, openness, and accountability, and Gov. Whitmer has betrayed their trust. She has fallen short on her promise to lead with transparency.”
Bollin highlighted that Gov. Whitmer's failure to treat public record requests as if she were subject to the Freedom of Information Act goes against the principles of transparency that she claimed to support during her campaign. The state representative questioned when an unkept promise crosses the line into a lie, stressing the importance of leaders being accountable not just in words but in actions.
Sunshine Week, which is observed each March, serves as a reminder of the need for transparency and accountability in government. As Michigan commemorates this week, the spotlight is on Gov. Whitmer's unfulfilled transparency pledge. Rep. Bollin remains dedicated to holding the governor accountable for her commitments to the people of Michigan.
