State Representative Ann Bollin has called for Anthony Eid's resignation from Michigan's Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission, citing concerns about his impartiality. Bollin, a Republican from Brighton Township, emphasized that Michigan voters supported the creation of an independent redistricting commission to ensure a fair and unbiased electoral map-drawing process. However, recent allegations of Eid's partisan ties, including reported coordination with Democratic candidates, have raised doubts about the integrity of this democratic process.

"Anthony Eid holds an 'independent' position on the redistricting commission, yet his involvement in several activities seriously questions his nonpartisan status," said Bollin. "Our citizens were promised a fair and nonpartisan redistricting process, and his actions and affiliations clearly undermine that promise. Anthony Eid's partisan ties blatantly defy the spirit of an independent commission, betraying the trust of Michigan voters. It's time for him to resign."

This call for resignation comes after three other members of the Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission resigned in mid-December. Dustin Witjes and Douglas Clark submitted their resignations following reports that they had been living out of state for more than a year. MC Rothhorn also resigned on December 26th.

Prior to these resignations, Bollin had written a letter to Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, seeking clarification on the eligibility of the two commissioners living out of state. The current state of the redistricting commission has raised concerns about the upcoming redrawing of legislative districts.

"Maps for legislative districts are set to be redrawn after the courts' decision, and the redistricting commission is a mess," stated Bollin. "Anthony Eid needs to resign immediately to ensure the people of Michigan have a fair and independent commission working on their behalf."

The call for Eid's resignation highlights the importance of maintaining an impartial redistricting process, as promised to Michigan voters. The allegations of partisan ties and coordination with Democratic candidates have cast doubt on Eid's ability to fulfill his role as an independent member of the commission. The resignation of three other commissioners further underscores the need for a fair and unbiased redistricting process in Michigan.
