Scammers are at it again today with calls from people pretending to be a Livingston County Sheriff's Office Officer and using a local number. The caller is claiming that you've got a warrant and you need to send or "wire" bond money or else Deputies will come arrest you.
If you get a call like this, hang up and block the number. Our Officers and any legitimate government agency will NEVER call and ask you to wire money through a service like Western Union, Money Gram, or Green Dot, so if some calls claiming you need to do that, you know it is a scam!
Scammers tend to prey on the elderly and those that may not be up to date with technology, so be sure to tell the vulnerable people in your life to watch out for scams like this. Encourage them to call you if they get a call asking for money to see if it is legit before they do anything.
