City of Rockford issued the following announcement on Feb 3.
Vacation Home Check
If you are going to be away on vacation any time this year, the Public Safety Department offers vacation home checks. If you are interested in a Vacation Home Check, please download the Vacation Home Check Registration Form and drop it off to the Rockford Department of Public Safety.
Tax Bills Due February 14, 2022
In early December, you should have received a tax statement for property you own in the City. If your taxes are paid by a mortgage company or bank, your statement will be labeled Informational Copy. This indicates that the mortgage company or bank has been billed. The last day to pay winter taxes without a penalty is Monday, February 14, 2022, by 5:30 p.m. Tax bills placed in the drop box after the close of City Hall (5:30 p.m.) on February 14th WILL NOT be considered on time. Postmarks are also not accepted. You can call City Hall to discuss your tax bill or review it online.
2022 Property Tax Assessments
The Assessing Department will be sending the 2022 Assessment Notices to property owners by the end of February. The notice contains two important values: Assessed Value - an estimate of ½ (one-half) of the property value if it were to be sold in the open market. Taxable Value – a value that the 2022 summer and winter taxes will be based on. This value is equal to or less than the Assessed Value.
The notice will also contain the dates and times that the City of Rockford Board of Review will meet in March to consider appeals to these valuations. We will include the date/time in the next newsletter as well.
Krause Memorial Library
Join the Rockford Snowman Challenge!
Do you want to build a snowman? In February, the KDL-Krause Memorial Library is collecting photos of your favorite snowperson creations.
No snow? Create a snowperson with paper! With paint! With socks! With blankets! With anything you can find in your house! Then take a photo of it and send it to us. Both Snow-made and homemade (craft supplies, household items, etc.) creations are welcome.
Submit your photo by February 21 to the KDL-Krause Memorial Facebook page or email to KrauseYouthStaff@kdl.org. Photos will be posted on their Facebook page. Winners will be determined by likes and announced February 25. Winning photos will be recognized by the Rockford Chamber of Commerce and posted in the Rockford Squire.
