City of Buchanan recently issued the following announcement.
A Message from AEP regarding the upcoming storm:
I&M Crews Ready Ahead of Expected Major Winter Storm
Indiana Michigan Power is actively tracking this system and the potential impacts that it could have on our system. While we know snow has its own set of challenges, what we are mostly tracking with this storm is the possible accumulation of ice and wind and its effects on our system. According to AEP Meteorology, I&M’s service area is on track to receive heavy snowfall starting tonight. Rain will change to snow in I&M’s South Bend/Elkhart and Michigan Districts overnight tonight and in the Fort Wayne District on Wednesday morning and in the Muncie District by Wednesday evening. Snow is expected to continue, heavy at times, Wednesday and Thursday before ending late afternoon-evening on Thursday. Widespread 10-20” of snowfall is expected to make travel nearly impossible. Winds upwards of 30 mph will cause blowing and drifting snow.
Most of the snow will be moderately wet to average in water content, so it should not cause large utility problems. Some light ice accumulations (1-10th of 1 inch” or less) will be possible during the transition from rain to snow in the Fort Wayne and Muncie districts on Wednesday.
In advance of the storm, I&M has line workers, damage assessors and vegetation workers across the 30 counties and 162 cities it serves prepared to begin restoring power as needed as soon as conditions safely allow.
We are preparing to activate our incident command team to respond to outages as quickly as possible and are sending out pre-storm communications to our customers to remind them to be prepared. You can access our preparedness website here in case you want to link it to any of your social media channels or other city communications. I am also setting up communication channels with area EMA’s and will continue to communicate updates and aide in any coordination for their decision making. I may also be reaching out to you for assistance on snow removals or access issues to aide in our ability to get crews to high priority areas where restoration is needed.
I will continue to provide a regular cadence of updates to you throughout the storm. We will also be doing the same for our customers and media outlets. At any time you can access our outage map here or on our mobile app.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out should you have any questions. Thank you and be safe!
