City of Rockford issued the following announcement on Jan 7.

Welcome to the City of Rockford’s newest addition of providing you news!  While we communicate through social media such as Facebook, we also decided to bring back the “old” way of communicating, which is through a newsletter.  The newsletter will be a twice a month publication, where we will remind you of seasonal items and talk about upcoming events, meetings and anything else that may be of interest.

Snow Removal Reminder

A friendly reminder, the owner or occupant of every lot or premises adjoining any street in the City limits, shall clear all ice and snow from sidewalks adjoining such lot or premises within twenty-four (24) hours after any snow or ice shall cease to fall during daylight hours.  It shall be cleared from the sidewalks by 6:00 p.m.

Snow or ice from private property shall not be deposited or left upon any public street or sidewalk or any public way owned by another person, without their permission.

Recycle your Christmas Tree

Weather permitting, on Monday January 10 & 24 crews will be collecting live Christmas trees that are placed curbside for recycling. Trees must be placed at the curb and easily accessible (not under a snowbank). As a friendly reminder, please do not place trees in plastic bags and remove all ornaments and lights.

Planning Commission

The Rockford Planning Commission will continue working on the City’s twenty year Master Plan.  The Master Plan is the Commission's and the community’s look into the future as to how the City will grow.  Soon we will notify you of a community get together where you can come in and give us your ideas on the City’s future.  Stay tuned.

Foam & E-waste Recycling Event

The Rockford Sustainability Commission (SusCom) is hosting a Foam & E-waste Recycling event on January 15 from, 1pm-4pm at Extremis located at 239 Northland Dr.

Drop off your EPS foam (styrofoam) and your old appliances and electronic devices at one location. Foam should be clean, hard packing foam or food containers (no peanuts). E-waste includes small appliances, printers, computers, laptops, DVD/VCR, almost anything with a plug. (No CRT TVs, freon, or refrigerators). All free of charge thanks to our partners - Dart Container, The Junk Luggers, and Extremis!

Business Hours:

Monday – Thursday: 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Friday: 7:30 – 12:00 p.m.
