FLINT & GENESEE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: Discover Flint with Back to the Bricks

Zz

FLINT & GENESEE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE issued the following announcement on August 11.

Despite having to cancel the original format of Back to the Bricks, the annual festival is bringing an opportunity to classic car lovers to “Discover Flint”.

This new event, hosted on Aug. 15, 2020, and presented by Back to the Bricks and General Motors, is an incredible, free opportunity to explore the history of downtown Flint while cruising past historic locations and iconic landmarks in the city.

Back to the Bricks started in 2004 when Al Hatch and other car enthusiasts began to discuss the possibility of bringing a car cruise to downtown Flint coinciding with the Woodward Dream Cruise. The first cruise, August 2005, was a hit with locals and car collectors from around the state and has been a staple in the Flint community ever since.

Each year, the event draws over 500,000 individuals to Saginaw Street in downtown Flint and highlights the roots of the Vehicle City. Back to the Bricks has continually celebrated and highlighted Flint’s automotive history erecting statues along Saginaw Street of historical figures such as William C. (Billy) Durant and Louis Chevrolet.

This year, the cruise begins at the Institute of Neurosurgery & Neuroscience (4800 S. Saginaw Street, Flint) on Saturday, Aug. 15 anytime between 8 and 10 a.m. Participants will then continue along a designated path covering more than 30 historic locations and landmarks.

Registered participants will receive an official 2020 t-shirt (one per car) at the beginning of the cruise and a souvenir bumper sticker at the end of the cruise. A cruise map and instructions will be emailed to registered participants the day before the cruise via email.
