State Rep. Ann Bollin (R- Brighton Township) praised a bipartisan legislative effort to avoid cuts in education spending as Michigan grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Even during the most difficult of times, our state budget must reflect and support our shared top priorities,” Bollin, a member of the House Appropriations Committee, said, according to Michigan House Republicans. “This bipartisan agreement does just that by supporting our schools and local governments in Livingston County and across Michigan.”
The state faced a $2.2 billion budget shortfall in the current fiscal year but managed to come up with a balanced budget by using federal COVID-19 funds, tapping $350 million from the state’s reserve fund, and by utilizing savings and efficiencies.
“We still face major challenges for the next budget year that begins Oct. 1 -– so our work is far from done,” Bollin told Michigan House Republicans. “But today we worked together to take an important and necessary step to move Michigan forward and through COVID.”
