Livingston County leads 65 other Michigan counties in reported COVID-19 deaths but remains lightly hit compared to pandemic epicenters in the state where thousands are reported to have died.
Livingston County accounts for 482 reported COVID-19 cases of the state's 50,079 reported as of May 16, according to totals reported on the county's website and the coronavirus page on the state's website.
Three died of COVID-19 in Livington County since May 13, bringing the county's reported death total from the respiratory illness to that date to 25.
Livingston County's reported COVID-19 death total, as of Saturday, ranks ahead of the vast majority of counties in the state that have reported 24 deaths or fewer.
Ottawa County reported 24 deaths as of Saturday, Hillsdale and Muskegon counties 23 each, and Ingham County 21. Nineteen COVID-19 deaths had been reported in Shiawassee County as of Saturday; 18 in Calhoun, Monroe, Tuscola counties each; and 15 in Bay County.
Clinton, Marquette, Otsego counties each reported 10 deaths as of Saturday, Alpena County reported 10, and Iosco and Midland counties each reported eight COVID-19 deaths. Isabella County reported seven COVID-19 deaths as of Saturday, Eaton County reported six, and Grand Traverse, Sanilac and Van Buren each reported five deaths.
Crawford and Gratiot counties each reported four COVID-19 deaths as of Saturday. Ionia and Lenawee counties have each reported three deaths, and Allegan, Branch, Cass, Clare, Delta, Dickinson, Emmet, Kalkaska, Mecosta, Oceana and Wexford counties have reported two deaths each.
Alcona, Arenac, Barry, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Gladwin, Gogebic, Huron, Missaukee, Montcalm, Oscoda and St. Joseph counties have reported one COVID-19 death each.
Antrim, Benzie, Chippewa, Houghton, Lake, Leelanau, Luce, Mackinac, Manistee, Mason, Menominee, Montmorency, Newaygo, Ogemaw, Osceola, Presque Isle, Roscommon and Schoolcraft have reported no COVID-19 deaths as of Saturday.
COVID-19 death totals reported by all of the 65 counties, including Livingston County, reporting 25 or fewer deaths are dwarfed by the 1,255 COVID-19 deaths reported in Detroit City alone. Wayne County reported 957 COVID-19 deaths as of Saturday, Oakland County 910 deaths, Macomb County 739 deaths and Genesee County 230 deaths.
Livingston County reported a total of 381 confirmed cases, 101 probable case, 74 hospitalizations and 325 recoveries.
The cumulative total of COVID-19 patients who have recovered in Michigan stood at 28,234, as of Friday, May 15, while 4,880 have died as of May 16, according to information released by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
All Livingston County buildings, and nonessential departments and services, are expected to remain closed through May 28 but normal operations and office hours are expected to resume the following day, according to a message on the county's website.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's current Stay Home, Stay Safe executive order is expected to last through Thursday, May 28. Under that order, Michigan residents are urged to remain at home except for critical errands, safe outdoor activities or essential work. The order also requires people to wear face coverings, or masks, in enclosed public spaces and to maintain social distancing.
