Livingston County Government issued the following announcement on May 8.
Our Livingston County Health Department is reminding our community that they can safely seek medical care. Holding off on needed treatment can put individuals at greater risk. The fear of COVID-19 should not keep individuals from seeking care or going to the hospital. If an individual believes they have a medical emergency like a stroke, heart attack, or seizure, they should immediately call 911 and allow responders to transport them for treatment.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, hospitals across the nation have seen a decline in visits for other illnesses. Local data from Livingston County EMS shows a 19% decline in run volume during March and a 38% decline during April, compared with last year.
Local healthcare facilities have enhanced measures to ensure that treatment is provided safely. Saint Joseph Mercy Health System has implemented a vigorous screening process upon entry to ensure all patients can safely seek care for any urgent and emergent need. Safety precautions have also been enhanced in order to resume select surgeries, procedures and other critical services following guidance from the state and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
