LIVINGSTON COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT: Saving lives during the coronavirus outbreak also happens outside the hospital – often, right over the phone

Livingston County Health Department issued the following announcement on April 14.

Livingston County Health Department workers, like our team of public health nurses, are working diligently to stop the spread of disease. They are working 7 days a week to investigate new cases of COVID-19, and quickly track down people that might have been exposed.

Linda, Livingston County’s Public Health Nurse Supervisor explains, “Once we are notified of a county resident testing positive for COVID-19, we reach out by phone to the patient, or the patient’s family to learn more about who they have been in close contact with.”

Staff then work to contact each of those individuals to warn them of exposure, and to provide instructions regarding quarantine. “We know it can be frustrating for some people who don’t yet feel sick to stay home. But because this disease is so contagious, stopping the chain of transmission is vital to keep our community safe,” explains Linda.

LCHD wants to reassure our community members that if our staff contacts you regarding a COVID-19 exposure or to provide isolation instructions, we will not ask for personal information such as your social security number or bank account information. First and foremost, we want to collect contact information – usually names and phone numbers of people you may have interacted with.

LCHD staff members are honored to serve the residents of Livingston County during this unprecedented pandemic response. We would like to remind everyone that we are all in this together, and will get through this.

Stay home. Stay safe. Save lives.
