A state representative is calling on Michiganders to heed Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s stay-at-home order.
Rep. Ann Bollin (R-Brighton Township) said the order directs residents to stay at home, unless they are going to work, shopping for groceries or visiting the doctor. Whitmer issued the order late last month in an effort to “flatten the curve” against the spread of the novel coronavirus.
“What our state is currently experiencing due to COVID-19 is unprecedented,” Bollin said to Michigan House Republicans. “Everyone should be doing their part and staying home whenever possible to protect themselves, their loved ones and their neighbors. By working together, we can mitigate the spread and get us all through this uncertain time quicker.”
The lawmaker also called for the postponement of the upcoming May elections for voters’ safety.
“It’s also important to remember that this is not a time for politics,” Bollin told Michigan House Republicans. “Our governor and her administration must work collaboratively with federal officials to make sure our first responders and health care workers have the resources they need to protect themselves and do their jobs effectively.”
As of April 9, the total number of coronavirus cases in Michigan are up to 21,500 with 1,076 deaths. Livingston County, part of which Bollin represents, has 181 cases and two deaths, according to Michigan.gov.
