Saginaw Harvest Table

“The mission for Saginaw Harvest Table was to increase vibrancy in Saginaw. It was something good and interesting to talk about that's happening in Saginaw.

That was the main point of the event when I started it, was to create something good for Saginaw, but it also ended up being a fundraiser secondarily. People sponsored it and local businesses chipped in and the funds we raised went towards the farmers market and some other things around town. Everything was about increasing the vibrancy in Saginaw and things that contribute to living here.

Harvest Table is also an opportunity to showcase the talented local chefs we have here, along with using local ingredients that are grown or raised here. It’s not exclusively local, but it is meant to showcase the good bounty we have here in terms of culinary resources.

At the event, everyone sits at one large table and it’s powerful. People aren't used to it, because we don't typically sit down at a table with people who are not in our group. We get a table for two or a table for four, but not a table for 100.

But people take to it really naturally. It seems odd at first, but it's a really great party by the middle of the second course. Everybody's talking to everybody.

You might be sitting next to a stranger, but by the middle of the evening, you are best friends. You are looking each other up on Facebook and connecting and it just builds from there.

I've always said Saginaw as a ‘large small community’. It's funny because you might sit next to somebody you don't know. But all of a sudden, they know somebody that you know, and they know them well and that connection gets developed. From the Positive Results perspective, we're all about bringing people downtown and building that community. What better way to do it?”
