City of Rockford issued the following announcement on Nov 23.
A NEW UPDATE REGARDING DISCOVER A ROCKFORD CHRISTMAS MAIN STREET:
Over the last week, we have been working through the logistics of the Christmas Tent on Main Street. After many discussions with involved parties, we have decided it is in everyone’s best interest to move the Christmas Tent from Main Street to the northwest parking lot near Garden Club Park, traditionally known as the Arnie’s Parking Lot. This change in plans is due to safety issues that were discovered during the planning process as well as access to utilities.
Main Street will now only be closed for the Santa Parade on December 4. The Santa Parade will still keep the same route heading South on Main Street to Courtland Street and then continuing north on Monroe to Lewis. During the Parade, vehicles will not be able to access Main Street from Bridge Street to Courtland Street for the safety of parade attendees. Once the parade is finished, the street will reopen to traffic.
We appreciate your patience while we work through these changes and work out the best ways to host all of this year’s holiday events. All of these adjustments are being made for the safety of our community.
We look forward to a very merry Christmas with all these family-friendly activities and hope you have the chance to enjoy them as well.
