Michigan's top officials have been scolding citizens for continuing to spread COVID-19, even after extending a lockdown until Sunday, December 20, according to Michigan Capitol Confidential.
Robert Gordon, director of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), extended the lockdown measure that prevents restaurants and bars from opening for indoor dining in the attempt to slow the spread of the virus.
After imposing the extension, Gordon accused Michigan residents of perpetuating the spread of COVID-19 by not taking the state-mandated rules seriously -- namely, wearing masks, social distancing and refraining from indoor gatherings.
“Because COVID is everywhere in our state and because sadly ... we still have a lot of folks who are... we’re not doing all the things we need to do ... If we are all doing those things, we will get the virus under control,” Gordon said on the radio program "Michigan's Big Show." “But we’re doing these things partly, not all the way, so the virus continues to spread.”
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Gordon and other state officials have continually blamed Michigan citizens, who they say are not following the state's health and safety guidelines.
