Rep. Ann Bollin (R-Brighton Township) voted in support of a budget plan that would increase per-pupil funding to $240 for K-12 schools in the state.
“The legislature came to a bipartisan agreement to get this budget done for our kids,” Bollin said in a press release on the Michigan House Republicans website. “Now, the governor’s signature is all that is needed to deliver this boost to students and schools in Livingston County. It’s time for her to sign this budget for the good of our students.”
The $15.2 billion budget includes the largest investment for students in Michigan’s history. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer previously recommended per-pupil funding of $180 per student. The proposed plan would be an increase of more than $300 million in the foundation allowance.
“We’re directing more money than ever to our local schools,” Bollin said. ”This budget will directly benefit our students and teachers by pumping more resources into every classroom in Michigan.”
Among other things included in the proposed budget are increased investments in career technical education, literacy coaches, special education and school safety.
